Stone bathrooms – photos and ideas
Imitations of natural stone and slate give the bathroom a natural texture and tranquility. A structured surface is ideal for an accent wall behind the bath or sink and in the shower. Below you will find how to use stone, along with photos of collections in a stone look.
How to use stone in the bathroom
Stone looks natural and timeless. Besides travertine and marble, which we dedicate separate pages to, imitations of limestone, sandstone, quartzite, and slate are selected for bathrooms. Like porcelain, they have the pattern of natural stone, but do not need to be impregnated and are water-resistant.
- Smooth stone: a calm look for large areas – floors and walls. In large formats, it looks like stone slabs.
- Structured stone: a relief that plays with light. It stands out best on one wall behind the bath, sink, or in the shower, ideally with side or backlighting.
- Slate: dark stone with a split surface. It is more suited for larger bathrooms or for shower floors.
- Combinations: wood, white sanitary ware, and matte metal accessories. Stone with wood is the foundation of both country and mountain bathrooms.
With a structured surface, be aware that limescale and soap can more easily accumulate, so rinse and clean it regularly in the shower with a soft brush. For the floor, choose a matte surface with higher slip resistance to enhance safety in the shower. Frequently Asked Questions
Where to use stone cladding in the bathroom?
Smooth stone for floors and walls, structured mainly for one accent wall behind the bath, sink, or in the shower, where it stands out in side light.
Is structured stone in the shower difficult to maintain?
A bit more than smooth cladding, as limescale and soap can get trapped in the relief. Just rinse it regularly and clean with a soft brush.
Does stone flooring in the bathroom need to be impregnated?
Porcelain in a stone look does not, it is non-absorbent. Natural stone needs to be impregnated and cleaned with products recommended by the manufacturer.
What to combine with stone in the bathroom?
With wood on the floor or furniture, white sanitary ware, and matte metal accessories. Stone with wood creates a warm, natural bathroom.
