Corner bath: dimensions, advantages, and disadvantages and when it is worth it
A corner bath utilises the corner of the bathroom and provides more space for sitting and bathing with a child. Symmetrical corner baths most often measure 120 × 120 to 150 × 150 cm, asymmetrical 150 × 90 to 170 × 130 cm, and are produced as left and right. However, they take up much more space than a rectangular bath 170 × 75 cm and are less convenient for showering. They are worth it in a square bathroom of approximately 2.5 × 2.5 m or where you want a bath for relaxation and have a separate shower.

The corner bath has long been a symbol of a larger family bathroom. Today, people choose it mainly when they want a comfortable bath for relaxation and have enough space in the bathroom. However, it also has disadvantages that may not be apparent in the showroom: it takes up a lot of space, fills more slowly, and showering in it is not as comfortable as in a rectangular bath with a screen. Below you will find dimensions, comparisons, and answers to the question of when a corner bath is worth it.

Symmetrical and asymmetrical corner bath
- Symmetrical has both sides equal in length at the walls. Its front edge is rounded or cut off. It is the most spacious and often allows two people to sit in it.
- Asymmetrical has one side longer (for example, 160 cm) and the other shorter (for example, 100 cm). At one end, it is wider, and at the other, narrower than a standard bath. It is produced as left and right – depending on which side is the wider part. Before ordering, check the manufacturer's drawing, as each manufacturer may label it differently.
An asymmetrical bath is a compromise: it fits in spaces where a symmetrical one would take up too much room, and its wider section allows for comfortable lounging and showering.
Dimensions of corner baths
Examples of bath sizes available from the e-shop vkupelni.sk (November 2026, acrylic and ABS/PMMA):
| Type | Dimensions | Example model | Price including VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| symmetrical | 120 × 120 cm | POLYSAN NILA | 538 € |
| symmetrical | 130 × 130 cm | POLYSAN SIRIUS | 595 € |
| symmetrical | 140 × 140 cm | POLYSAN SIMONA / AQUALINE DUNAJ | 615 € / 297,99 € |
| symmetrical | 150 × 150 cm | POLYSAN ROSANA / AQUALINE DYJE | 779 € / 289 € (promotion) |
| asymmetrical | 160 × 90 cm, left or right | AQUALINE BEROUNKA | 365 € |
| asymmetrical | 160 × 100 cm, left or right | POLYSAN EVIA | 549 € |
| asymmetrical | 170 × 130 cm, left or right | POLYSAN TANDEM | 995 € |
Prices are just examples from one store as of November 2026 and may vary. Cheaper models made of ABS/PMMA have an acrylic layer on a supporting plastic, while more expensive ones are made of cast acrylic, with a deeper body or with hydro-massage. The height of the bath typically ranges from 41 to 54 cm, while models with a built-in panel (monolith) are around 60 cm.
How much space it takes up
| Bath | Bath area | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| rectangular 170 × 75 cm | approximately 1,3 m² | base |
| asymmetrical 160 × 100 cm | up to 1,6 m² (less, as one end is narrower) | a little more |
| symmetrical 140 × 140 cm | up to 2 m² (less due to the rounded front edge) | one and a half times more |
| symmetrical 150 × 150 cm | up to 2,25 m² | almost double |
Add free space in front of the bath for getting in and drying off. In a 2 × 2 m bathroom, a symmetrical corner bath measuring 140 × 140 cm will fit, but there will be very little room left for the sink and WC. It is more practical in a space of around 2.5 × 2.5 m or in a rectangular bathroom with one long wall. You can try out the layout with precise dimensions in the 3D bathroom planner.

Advantages and disadvantages
| Advantages | Disadvantages |
|---|---|
| you can sit in it, often even with two people | takes up a lot of bathroom space |
| comfortable bathing for small children – parent sits on the edge | requires more water and time to fill |
| the corner serves as a shelf | showering is less comfortable, the screen is more complicated |
| makes good use of a corner where other fixtures would not be practical | with a symmetrical bath, getting out is more difficult due to the wide edge |
| often with hydro-massage or a pillow | in a small bathroom, it visually dominates and reduces space |
Can you shower in a corner bath?
It is possible, but less comfortable than in a rectangular bath. With a symmetrical bath, it is difficult to install a screen – water splashes onto the rounded front edge and from there onto the floor. With an asymmetrical bath, the situation is better: you can stand in the wider section, and some manufacturers offer a custom screen for it. If your family showers more than bathes, a combination of a rectangular bath with a screen or a bath and a separate shower enclosure is more practical. You can find a comparison in the article Shower enclosure or bath and about screens in the article Bath with shower screen.

Installation: legs, panel or tiled bath surround
- Connections – the waste from the bath connects to the sewage system with a DN 50 pipe with a fall. The height and position of the waste should be determined by the plumber according to the technical sheet of the bath before tiling.
- Positioning the bath – the acrylic bath stands on legs or on a structure from the manufacturer, it must be level and supported according to the instructions.
- Bath front – a panel can be purchased for many corner baths. The other option is to create a surround from blocks or moisture-resistant boards with tiling. Always leave an access panel to the waste trap – more in the article Tiled bath surround and niche.
- Connection to walls – waterproofing behind the bath and in the corners, the edge of the bath covered with tiles or sealing tape and flexible silicone.
- Tap – wall-mounted above the bath or a tap on the edge of the bath, if the bath has openings. For a hydro-massage bath, also consider a socket or electricity supply according to the zones in the bathroom.
When a corner bath is worth it
- Yes – a larger square bathroom in a house, a bath as a place for relaxation, a separate shower enclosure, a family with small children.
- Yes, rather asymmetrical – a bathroom around 160 to 170 cm in length, where you want a wider bath than 70 cm and occasionally shower in it.
- No, rather not – a small bathroom in a prefab block of flats, a bathroom where the bath is mainly used for showering, or when you want a washing machine and a vanity unit.
An alternative with a similar ‘wellness’ feel is a freestanding bath – it takes up less space but needs room around it. We compare all types of baths in the article Bath for the bathroom: how to choose, and the dimensions of standard baths in the article Bath dimensions.

What to consider when choosing
- Side of the bath – for an asymmetrical bath, left or right, depending on where the corner is and where the entry is.
- Backrest and seat – some models have shaped backrests, others have seating in the corner.
- Overflow and drain – where it is located and whether it is included in the package; the waste trap is often purchased separately.
- Panel – whether the manufacturer offers it, or if the bath will be tiled around.
- Water heating – for a large bath, check if the boiler or heater can provide enough hot water at once.
